The REA website
For research
If you want to find out more about the renewable energy industry here are some useful tips.
The Renewable Energy Association is an industry body for companies involved in renewables. We can’t therefore give you rigorous academic details for your coursework – or give you the answers to your market research for free!
However you will find on this website a lot of good information about renewable energy in practice, which we hope you will find useful. Here are some of them:
About renewable energy
We have an overview of renewable energy and details about the main technologies used for heat production, power generation and transport fuels.
Look at the glossary for details of the many keywords, buzzwords, acronyms and (frankly) jargon used in the renewable energy industry. This also describes the main energy units used, while the Facts and Figures section gives conversion factors and calculators for some of the most frequently used situations.
We also have substantial statistics on the market. However we do not publish very much of this, as it is collected on a commercially confidential basis. Look at the Sites section, though, to get an overview of the renewable energy projects operating in the UK.
Renewable energy policies
There are a wide range of policies on energy and renewables at the global, national and regional level. These are not always as coherent as we might like so be prepared to spend some time flogging through the Policy section.
Training and courses in renewables
There are getting to be plenty of courses available. Many REA members can help – look for training services in the REA members’ directory.
Some other training providers are shown in the Useful Links section.
Finding a job in renewable energy
In the Members section you can see pretty much everyone who is anyone in the UK renewable industry.
To save having to write round to all of them, look first in the Jobs section, to see who’s actually looking for new people.
Want to know more?
The REA does admit student members at a concessionary annual fee.
You can also attend most REA events, where you’ll get a much better appreciation of what is actually happening in the sector.
