Back Biomass is an ongoing campaign by the Renewable Energy Association to urge the Government to place this predictable, controllable, affordable low carbon technology at the heart of its strategy for Britain’s energy future. The campaign was launched in July with the support of Charles Hendry MP, Minister of State for the Department of Energy and Climate Change. The Minister has agreed to address the reception on the future of biomass, on Tuesday 13th December from 15.00pm to 16.30pm.
Sustainable biomass power (including installations which also produce heat) is a uniquely useful renewable technology offering proven, practical and secure low carbon energy as part of a balanced energy mix. It can be easily switched on and off to balance the grid as more intermittent or inflexible low carbon technologies come online. It offers valuable energy security, with a broad range of reliable fuel sources from geopolitically stable regions. Biomass can also help the UK deliver on its climate change commitments and contribute to green growth and jobs across the country. Most importantly, this clean technology delivers value for money for the British taxpayer, offering great carbon savings with considerably lower capital and operating costs than other comparable options, particularly when heat and power are generated together in one highly efficient process or when existing fossil fuel plants are converted to biomass fuel use.
Charles Hendry MP, Minister of State for the Department of Energy and Climate Change, together with a number of senior industry stakeholders and the Mayor of Westminster will be present at the drinks reception to share their thoughts on the benefits of biomass and the current political and policy context.
We look forward to welcoming you to Westminster City Hall on the 13th December.
