Installing a biogas plant on your farm can be a profitable enterprise. That is why the REA brought together a group of the leading farmer/operators in the UK to pass on their knowledge and practical experience in developing farm based AD.   These included most of the recently built plants as well as experts on spreading the digestate to land, feedstocks, regulations, grid connections and options for selling the energy produced by the plant.  The audience included more than 30 farmers located within a 50 mile radius of Stoneleigh who had either land area or livestock of a size sufficient to justify a close look at the prospect of building a Biogas Plant.

REA Biogas Group

In 2006 the REA formed the Biogas Group, which includes most of the AD operators in the UK, to promote the widespread uptake of Anaerobic Digestion.   In this we have had considerable positive support from government, especially Defra, resulting in additional financial incentives in the form of revenue from electricity exports and the recent announcements on grant aid.  We meet regularly about every 2 months.   If you would like to join the Biogas Group, please contact David Collins at dcollins@r-e-a.net  on 07973 111 972.
