081014RETHoLThe Renewable Tariff coalition held a highly successful lobby event in the House of Lords yesterday ahead of next week’s crucial vote on the Energy Bill.

The government will face strong cross-party support for the measure, evident from the turnout which included the entire Conservative climate and energy frontbench team, the Shadow LibDem Secretary of State for ECC, Steve Webb, Labour MP’s Elliot Morley, Des Turner and Alan Simpson. Dick Strawbridge, from the BBC's 'It's Not Easy Being Green, opened the event with a short speech.

The event featured a three dimensional 2020 renewable energy town, showing how the Tariff measure could lead to entirely self-sufficient towns fed by their own renewable energy. A UK designed and UK made solar PV tile was available, courtesy of Solarcentury, for MP’s and peers to sign and pledge their support for the campaign and EDM.

The success of the coalition campaign was evident from Ed Miliband’s statement to the House of Commons on Thursday 16 October. Miliband confirmed that the Government will introduce a feed-in tariff amendment to the Energy Bill to support renewable electricity.
