Bioenergy technical specialist – Renewable Energy Association
The Renewable Energy Association (REA) is an industry association representing producers of renewable energy. Its members are involved across the entire range of renewable energy technologies and applications, including biomass, wind, solar, biogas, liquid biofuels, energy-from-waste, landfill gas, hydropower, wave, tidal stream and sewage gas. Legal, accounting and energy trading businesses are also represented. It was established in 2001, and now has a membership of almost 600 companies.
The REA is seeking to appoint someone an expert to provide technical advice and assist with the development of renewable and energy policies, in the representation and communication of the position of the Association and in undertaking project-related work.
The candidate must be able to demonstrate a high level of technical expertise with regard to combustion technologies and in particular biomass heating and CHP. Ideally this expertise will have been gained from having worked within the renewable heat sector.
The main function of this post is to;
- To act as the Association’s primary source of renewable heat technical expertise, and
- To support the development and communication of the Association’s renewable heat policies.
The candidate should possess;
- a confident, pro-active collaborative approach to dealing with member companies, government officials and other stakeholder groups, and
- good writing ability and clear communication skills.
Ideally the candidate will be familiar with some or all of the following issues;
- air quality issues
- energy from waste
- biomass supply chain issues
- renewables grant funding programmes
- current building regulations for domestic and non-domestic buildings and how they impact on renewable heat technologies,
As well as assisting in policy and project-related work, the candidate should be prepared to deputise for senior staff at meetings, undertake speaking engagements and participate in the Association’s “resource groups” within their area of expertise.
It is envisaged that this will be a consultancy or part time role. The association’s offices are based near Whitehall, but this need not necessarily be the main workplace. A variety of possible employment terms could be considered.
