This morning DESNZ published their latest consultation on planning reform for solar canopies and EV charging – available here. This DESNZ consultation proposes to mandate the introduction of solar canopies on new outdoor car parks and looks at opportunities for deployment on existing car parks, above a certain size. There will be some exemptions.
It also invites responses to a call for evidence on EV charging on private land, Cross Pavement Charging, and On Street EV Charging.
In response, Trevor Hutchings, Chief Executive of the Renewable Energy Association, said:
“The UK is a leading country in the net zero transition. This call for evidence is welcome as it provides the opportunity to go further and faster, and at reduced cost.
“Addressing planning barriers to the deployment of EV charging infrastructure, and exploiting the further potential of solar power will help deliver more secure, affordable and cleaner energy for our transport system and the wider economy.”
