Ultra Low Emission Vehicle Summit to champion British leadership

  • Department for Transport announces dates of the Prime Minister’s Zero Emission Vehicle Summit
  • REA welcomes the initiative and highlights British excellence in low carbon transport

The Department for Transport has today confirmed that the UK’s Zero Emissions Vehicle Summit, announced by the Prime Minister in the Autumn of 2017, will take place on the 11th and 12th September 2018.

The Summit is designed to bring together countries from across the world to further the low emission and electric vehicle sectors, and will attract Government Ministers, policy makers, automotive companies, and other businesses in the supply chain.

Commenting on the announcement, James Court, Head of Policy and External Affairs at the Renewable Energy Association said:

“Across the UK, we are already showing international leadership in the development of the full range of low-carbon transport technologies. From Dundee to Westminster, local authorities are championing advancements in electric vehicles and building charging hubs often incorporating the latest in solar and energy storage. The North-East is home to world-leading manufacturers of renewable petrol and diesel, with the largest biorefinery in Europe. Farms up and down the country are getting behind turning wastes into biomethane, which is increasingly used in heavy goods vehicles.

“We welcome the PM’s ambitions of highlighting British excellence in low carbon transport to the world. It is encouraging that the PM is putting political capital behind this critical project, as government vision and support is vital if we are going to realise the goal of being a global leader in low-carbon transport.
