Renewable power generation

This part of the website deals with renewable electricity generation.

Several electricity generation technologies use heat to power a turbine. In those cases it is possible – indeed usually preferable – to capture and use the substantial amount of residual heat too. This approach is called Combined Heat and Power or CHP.

Some renewable power technologies are best suited to large scale generation, feeding into the electricity grid for distribution to user around the country. Some are suited to localised generation where most of the power can be used where it is produced. Technologies like wind, solar and even hydro can be used at both levels.

Policies for renewable electricity generation

Are described in the policy section of the website.
