Renewable Heat and Combined Heat and Power
This part of the website deals with renewable heat production.
There are separate sections for each of the primary renewable heat technologies – see the headings on the left.
Heat can be produced directly from many renewable sources. In some cases heat can also be captured from steam or gases used to power an electricity generation turbine. This approach is called Combined Heat and Power or CHP.
All renewable heat technologies are suited to localised generation where most of the power can be used where it is produced. Some can also produce heat at large scale, using a heat network to distribute the output to factories, hospitals, housing developments and even entire towns.
