Renewable Transport Fuel Forum

Roundtable on accelerating government road decarbonisation and supporting domestic renewable fuel supply chains

Join the REA for a roundtable with Government and industry stakeholders to discuss accelerating government road decarbonisation and the support of domestic renewable fuel supply chains. Discussions will cover the ambition for scaling up CNG/LNG biomethane for usage in HGVs/commercial fleet, the future fuel blend allowance strategy, and domestic revenue and production that can be generated. Additionally, we will be covering the security of domestic renewable fuel supply chains, where the incentivisation of UK based SAF production, self-sufficiency and security against international shocks, and inadequate progress with development RTFCs will be debated.

Discussions will cover:

  1. Road decarbonisation ambition
    • Encouraging greater renewable fuel ambition and proactive action in decarbonisation of transport
      1. Scaling up biomethane usage – Greater use of CNG and LNG for surface fleet and HGVs to hit decarbonisation goals sooner
      2. Fuel blend growth strategy
      3. Revenue streams and domestic production generation from road decarbonisation ambition
  1. Promoting domestic production and investment into UK supply chains
    • SAF Revenue Certainty Mechanism – Incentivising investment into UK based production
      1. ILUC as a component of assessment criteria
      2. Approval pathway development – Generating more supply streams
    • Loss of RTF supply overseas
      1. Making the most of domestic waste supplies
    • Self-sufficiency – Security against international shocks and support for British jobs
      1. Lessons from bioethanol plant closures
    • Inadequacy of Development RTFC progress
      1. Shortfall and the need for greater incentivisation
