REA is pleased to host Defra’s Air Quality and Industrial Emissions team for a member meeting on the consultation “Modernising Environmental Permitting for Industry.”

This consultation outlines a wide range of proposed regulatory reforms designed to:
• Support innovation in emerging technologies
• Streamline permitting processes
• Provide businesses with regulatory certainty to enable growth and investment
• Maintain vital environmental and public health protections

Key proposals include bringing new activities into the environmental permitting framework, such as non-waste AD, battery manufacturing, and battery energy storage systems.

During the session, Defra will provide an overview of the consultation and take questions from members. Attendees will also have the opportunity to share views to help shape the REA’s consultation response.
