This analysis demonstrates that, once system-wide costs such as grid reinforcement, transmission upgrades and storage are fully accounted for, renewable electricity becomes the net economic winner over natural gas by 2027–2028. Under the UK’s Clean Power 2030 pathway, sustained investment in domestic renewables not only reduces long-term generation costs but also supports significant job creation, strengthens energy security and limits exposure to volatile international gas markets.
