The Apply for and manage environmental permissions service is now live. You can now digitally submit deployments online here. You will need to create a Defra Identity account to use the service.

The Apply for and manage environmental permissions online service lets you:

  • apply for deployments
  • upload supporting information

The new online service provides a simpler way for you to apply for your deployment permission. It uses clear questions and guidance and only asks for information that is relevant to the activity being applied for.

Improving the Service

The EA notes that the service is not yet perfect and that some functionality will continue to be improved and expanded over time. However, the service already offers a range of benefits, and Defra encourages applicants to begin using it now so that they can take advantage of the improvements already in place. Feedback received from you will play an important role in shaping future development and helping us prioritise further enhancements. As part of the wider Permitting Transformation Programme within the Chief Regulator’s Group, the EA’s Mobile Plant Team are keen to understand your experience of using the service so that customer insight can help shape future improvements to our permitting services.

If you have any feedback on the service, please complete the following survey form.

Adding multiple wastes to your application

The EA’s Mobile Plant Team recommend using the EWC code upload function when adding multiple wastes as part of your application. To access this feature, you must first select “Upload Land to be Treated” in the About the land to be treated section. This enables the CSV upload functionality throughout the remainder of the application journey.

If you choose to enter land details manually on screen, the subsequent CSV upload options will not be available. Therefore, where you intend to upload multiple waste or field records, we recommend selecting the upload option at the outset.

To use this feature, first select “Download a template” in the About the land to be treated section and complete the template. Please ensure the worksheet is saved as a CSV (Comma delimited) file type. Once the land details have been uploaded, you will be prompted to continue using CSV uploads in the subsequent application sections, including the waste information section.

Using the EWC code upload function provides a more efficient way to add multiple waste types and can reduce the amount of manual data entry required.
