The REA’s Data Centre Coalition publishes regulation asks
The UK faces a genuine dilemma on AI infrastructure. The potential prize is enormous: data centres built here bring high-quality jobs, anchor renewable investment and underpin real productivity gains. But the public concern is real too. Planning inquiries are full of questions about water, energy and grid stability, and those questions deserve honest answers rather than unreliable reassurance.
The REA’s Data Centre Coalition has published a new report setting out how proportionate, well-designed regulation can answer those concerns and make the UK a serious contender in the global race for AI infrastructure. It proposes seven measures covering water, grid stability, on-site dispatchable generation, clean power, flexibility and how projects get approved, so that the data centres Britain builds are ones it can truly be proud of.
