Ahead of the waste sector joining the UK Emissions Trading Scheme in 2028, the government is running a voluntary Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) period from 1 January 2026.

This period will be used to inform the final ETS policy design. Full details can be found here.

As part of our wider engagement, the REA is hosting a meeting with DESNZ for our Energy from Waste Forum Members focused on the MRV-only period and ETS. 2:00-3:00pm on Tuesday 23rd September 2025.
