Launch Reception: EV Consumer Code

Join the REA and Renewable Energy Assurance Limited (REAL) for the launch of the UK’s first Electric Vehicle Consumer Code for domestic charge point installers!

The Electric Vehicle Consumer Code for Home Chargepoints (EVCC) sets out high standards for businesses who install chargepoints in consumers’ homes for electric vehicles. To date, there are around 1,000 businesses authorised to install these chargepoints. However, we know that not all consumers have had a good experience when they’ve installed a chargepoint at home.

Going forward, by choosing an EVCC member business, consumers will be sure that they have all the information they need before they sign up, that the chargepoint meets all the technical and product requirements and that it is installed correctly and safely.

Sitting alongside the Consumer Code there is a suite of model documents including a quotation and a contract. By using these documents, installers can be sure that they are complying with the complex set of consumer protection legislation. And if, by any chance, things should go wrong, installers and consumers can turn to EVCC for assistance with sorting them out.

The EV Consumer Code is a REAL initiative supported by the REA’s EV Forum.
