Excellence highlighted with shortlist for British Renewable Energy Awards

  • Shortlist released for the UK’s most prestigious awards for renewable energy and clean technologies
  • Shortlisted companies range from those operating across renewable heat, power, transport and energy storage
  • High volume of nominations received demonstrate resilience of the sector in the face of policy uncertainty

The shortlist of nominations for the 2018 British Renewable Energy Awards, the UK’s most prestigious awards for the renewable energy and clean tech sectors, has been released.

Shortlisted nominees will be considered by an esteemed judging panel on the 24th May. The full list of judges can be found below.

2018’s awards received a high volume of nominations. While many remain concerned about how the energy market will be structured in the 2020’s the industry has also seen significant advancements in energy policy over the past year. Specifically, the Renewable Transport Fuels Obligation passed through Parliament, the Smart Systems and Flexibility Plan was published, amendments to the Renewable Heat Incentive tabled, the Industrial Strategy green paper published and funding introduced, and the 2040 ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans was confirmed.

Commenting on the Awards, James Court, Head of Policy and External Affairs at the Renewable Energy Association said:

“The British renewable energy and clean tech sector adapted and innovated in the face of another year of policy change and business uncertainty. In the face of numerous ‘known unknowns’ posed by Brexit we received a high volume of nominations for companies that are transforming the market, continuing the excellence we have always seen from this industry even in challenging times.

“My deepest congratulations to this year’s shortlisted nominees, I look forward to seeing them at the Savoy on the fourteenth of June.”

Michelle T Davies, International Head of Clean Energy and Sustainability, Eversheds Sutherland and one of this year’s esteemed judges said:

“From large companies to small, from community-based to corporate, the UK’s renewable energy and clean tech sectors demonstrate innovation, resilience, and adaptability year-on-year.

“The British Renewable Energy Awards showcase the best of the sector and I look forward to working with this outstanding judging panel to evaluate 2018’s brightest companies.”
