The British Renewable Energy Awards brought together trailblazers, innovators, and changemakers from across the UK’s clean energy sector at the Sheraton Grand in London. It is an honour for us to recognise the brilliant minds who power these remarkable solutions. Winning an award here is more than just recognition, it is a powerful statement that your work is shaping the industry.
This is clearly expressed by Amy Morrall, Project Coordinator of ACT, “Winning a Highly Commended [at the project award] was a proud moment for the entire ACT team. It’s a testament to the dedication, collaboration, and passion that went into our work at York Minster. Being recognised among such an inspiring group of professionals was truly humbling.”
Geothermal Engineering took home the Project Award for their ground-breaking work, cementing themselves as a trailblazer in the sector. Thomas Oliver, Project and Research Coordinator stated “We are delighted to be collecting this award, thank you very much to the REA. We’re very excited to be working on such a prestigious project. Our geothermal plant is now complete and we will soon be producing the UK’s first electricity from geothermal heat. We have big aspirations for geothermal power, heat and lithium so watch this space for more exciting news!’
We spoke to more winners and highly commended who highlighted that winning was definitely a moment of pride, but also a motivator to aim even higher.
In a very personal quote from Karen Spenley Ceng, UK Manager of Celsius Energy, who won the Innovation award stated, “Wow. What a moment. So proud and humbled to see Celsius Energy win! As an engineer, this award is particularly meaningful as it shows the power of innovation when it’s rooted in impact. A heartfelt thank you to REA for this recognition – and to the passionate team at Celsius Energy. It’s just the beginning, but it shows what’s possible when we align technology with purpose. Let’s keep going.”
Speaking of it being just the beginning, in just one year since launching, Cosmic Charging has made a splash in the EV charging space – and the judges took notice. Winning the Low Carbon Transport Award so early in their journey affirms their impact.
“To have been nominated and then win at the REA awards at this early stage has been a fantastic validation of the work the team have put in. To have such an experienced judging panel warrant the mission and progress of our business as award-winning is an honour”, stated Rob Hughes, Director of Cosmic Charging.
This experienced judging panel also recognised iChoosr for their fantastic work in accelerating the net zero by including not just businesses, but the citizens at home.
The iChoosr team commented on winning the Accelerating to Net Zero Award, “Winning this award was a proud moment for our team and our partners. Solar Together is about more than solar panels; it’s about enabling residents to take meaningful action at home. To have that recognised on a national stage means a lot.”
Accelerating the journey to Net Zero is more than a mission, it’s a shared commitment across the renewable energy sector. At this year’s Awards we witnessed how that commitment is being transformed into action by some of the industry’s most dynamic players. One standout was Enfinium, who received the Highly Commended award in the “Accelerating Net Zero” category. “We’re honoured to be recognised for our efforts in decarbonisation powered by waste,” said Philip Curds, Head of ESG and Sustainability at Enfinium. “This award is a testament to the incredible dedication of our team. With more exciting projects in the pipeline, we’re already looking forward to the REA Awards 2026.”
In a fiercely competitive field, Zapmap took home the prestigious Company Award, acknowledging the organisation that has made the most significant contribution to UK renewables and clean technology over the past two years. “To be recognised by the REA, such a respected industry voice, is an incredible honour,” said Nadia Misconi of Zapmap. “This award celebrates everything we do, from our app and insights to our guides and community engagement, to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles. It’s a true team achievement.”
All this great work being accomplished must be communicated for a greater understanding that a greener future isn’t optimism – its real, here and now. For this, the communications award was given to the Renewable Heating Hub. Mars, the founding editor commented that, “It’s a huge endorsement of the work we’ve been doing to support homeowners navigating the transition to renewable heating. We’ve worked hard to create a platform and podcast that offers honest advice, peer-to-peer support and clear information. Recognition from such a respected industry body reinforces that we’re making a real difference.”
Additionally, there was the valued Judges’ Award, granted at the discretion of our incredible judging panel to an individual who has demonstrated a significant impact to the sector over their career. This year’s winner was Harriet Lamb, CEO of The Green Party. Harriet has has spent her career driving social and environmental change, whether it was creating a circular economy, ending low pay, supporting refugees and more; it is truly an honour to have her accept the judges award.
From start-ups to sector leaders, every entrant at BREA 2025 represents a unique and vital piece of the clean energy puzzle, and we celebrated that in a night to remember with the future to build in mind.
