The Energy Secretary has set out an accelerated package of energy interventions to boost the UK’s energy security:
- Low cost solar panels that families can buy at supermarkets and put on their balconies or outdoor space, will be made available in the UK for the first time.
- DESNZ intend to bring forward the Government’s next annual renewables auction to July, inviting renewables companies to invest in UK energy.
- Following the implementation of the Fingleton Review into speeding up the building of nuclear power stations, the government will apply the lessons of the review to other infrastructure such as renewables.

“Trevor Hutchings, CEO of the Renewable Energy Association, said:
This is the second time in just four years that UK energy bills have been driven up by a major oil and gas price shock triggered by foreign conflict.
The only way to break this cycle of repeated energy shocks is to accelerate the shift to renewable energy and clean technologies and by building more of their supply chains here in the UK. Renewable energy is the cheapest and quickest way to get new power onto the grid, and electric vehicles already offer most drivers a lower total cost of ownership than petrol and diesel vehicles.
We must learn from the lessons of history: to protect the resilience of Britain’s economy and infrastructure, we need to speed up the transition to clean, domestic energy sources.
That’s why we welcome the Government’s announcement today to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy, increasing our energy security, driving economic growth and jobs, and bringing down climate changing emissions.
