The Government has released a policy progress update and consultation on the design of the new Environmental Land Management Scheme, intended to replace the Common Agricultural Policy payments following the UK’s departure from the EU.

The new support scheme moves towards ‘paying public money for public goods’ rather than the direct payments received today.   For REA members, this presents the opportunity for ensuring farmers and landowners are rewarded for land management related to bioenergy applications and good soil management practices.

The REA has developed a member’s briefing around this initial consultation – outlining the three tiers proposed and the opportunities for our sectors.
