The Landfill Gas (LFG) Forum is for owners, operators, and developers of Landfill Gas projects in the UK. The LFG member forum organises meetings that create an opportunity for members to discuss common issues that impact commercial operation. It is also a vehicle for members to engage with regulators, Government bodies, and suppliers with a consistent voice and joint representation.

 

About the forum

The main focus of the forum’s work is on the impacts of the scheduled end of support under the Renewables Obligation. More than 85% of sites currently generating will lose support in April 2027. Support for renewable electricity generation has funded investment on sites that have gone far beyond those required by environmental regulators. These have significant ongoing costs and there is a risk of substantial increases in methane emissions if these activities are no longer financially viable.

The forum is working closely with government to make the case for intervention on this issue, as well as longer term policy on landfill.

The forum has two officers.

  • Chair – Steve Shaw (Veolia)
  • Vice-Chair – Graham Bone (Infinis)

Member & External Engagement

The Forum organises meetings when there is something concrete to discuss – usually around government policy – rather than on a fixed pattern. These are generally on line but are occasionally held in person.

Key stakeholders the forum engages with are DESNZ, Defra and the Environment Agency.
