The Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) reforms will come into force from 2024, but will mean that industry across the UK will be required to start collecting data on packaging waste from 1st January 2023 as part of the first phase of EPR. The EPR entails producer payments for managing household packaging waste and packaging in street bins managed by local authorities. Defra is continuing to work with industry groups to explore payment options for commercially-collected packaging waste, to inform a review of EPR in 2026/2027.

Defra will be hosting webinars to support industry, on Wednesday 23rd November and Tuesday 29th November, by discussing the requirements from January 2023, including: what information needs to be collected, what industry will need to do, when it needs to be done by, and how it will need to be done. There will be a question and answer session at the end.

Please register for the Wednesday 23 November, 14:00 – 15:00 webinar here.

Please register for the Tuesday 29th November, 10:00 – 11:00 webinar here.
